Description
First stop, London... Green Britain go behind the scenes at one of Buller & Rice hair salons to investigate what makes these boutique salons stand out form the crowd in terms of sustainability. Emily meets with co-owners Anita and Steven and discover their mission to make the hairdressing experience as planet friendly as possible. From the use of eco-friendly products and refills to enironmentally friendly materials in the design, Buller & Rice has sustainability running through its veins. Even your split ends are getting a second life, as they are sent off to be turned into hair mats that are cleaning the oil spills in our oceans. Next, Emily travels to Wales to meet with Adele Williams in her Green Waves Hair Workshop who is transforming the hair ends into the oil spill mats. Inspired by her time in Canada where this was quite common practice she realised these mats were not being made widely here in Great Britain so she launched her workshop where it takes approximately 2 hours to make the mats using 500g of hair ends to create a two-foot square, one-inch thick mat, which can collect up to 1.5 gallons of oil.
